When you book a reservation through Reserve, we place a temporary hold on your payment method to secure your table. This deposit is only charged under specific circumstances.
To secure your spot, we place a temporary hold on your payment method. The hold amount is calculated per guest and varies by restaurant. For most reservations, this is $40-50 per guest. This hold is authorization only—it does not result in an actual charge unless the conditions below are met.
The deposit hold is converted to an actual charge only if:
Cancellation refunds are calculated based on (1) the difference between the purchase price at the time of booking and the current market price at the time of cancellation, and (2) non-recoverable transaction costs incurred at booking.
If the current market price equals or exceeds your purchase price, you will receive a full refund of the amount paid. If the current market price has increased beyond your purchase price, you will receive the full amount paid plus a credit for the difference. If the current market price is below your purchase price, the refund amount will be reduced by the price differential.
Refunds issued to the original payment method may be adjusted to account for non-recoverable payment processing costs incurred at the time the reservation was created. This adjustment applies only to refunds processed back to credit or debit cards, not to cash payments or wallet credits.
The adjustment amount is calculated to reflect actual payment network fees, interchange costs, and platform transaction fees that cannot be recovered when the authorization is released. The adjustment will not exceed 3% of the original purchase price.
The exact refund amount, including any applicable adjustments, will be displayed prior to confirming your cancellation.
For cash-back reservations (off-peak times where you earn money for dining), the deposit hold is automatically released after you complete your reservation. Your cash-back reward is credited to your Reserve wallet the day after your meal, once the restaurant confirms you showed up.
